Hui Ethnic Minority

The Hui ethnic minority has a total population of about 8,612,948. the largest residential area is the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. Also this group is mainly distributed in Gansu, Qinghai, Henan, Hebai, Shandong and Yunnan provinces. Hence it is one of China's largest and most widespread ethnic minority. Living together with the Han people for centuries, the Huipeople took Chinese as their common language. The Hui ethnic minority is the shortened form of “Huihui ethnic minority”. In the early years of the 13 th century, countless Islamite from Middle Aisa, Persia and Arabia migrated voluntarily or compulsorily into China. These people, who are also called Huis or Huihuis because of their religious beliefs are part of the ancestors of today's Huis. The religion of the Huis is Islam. Moslems pray and hold religion activities in a mosque. The mosque is also a symbol of Hui architecture. Islam has had a great impact on the political and economic systems of the Hui society. They have their own distinctive eating customs, notably that pork is especially forbidden.
